A Beijing district put itself on a “wartime” footing①, and the capital banned tourism and sports events last Saturday after a new cluster centred around a major wholesale market sparked fears of a new wave of COVID-19. 45 people out of 517 tested with throat swabs② at the Xinfadi market in the city’s Fengtai district had tested positive for the coronavirus. The entire Xinfadi market was shut down at 3 a.m. last Saturday, after two men working at a meat research centre who had recently visited the market were reported to have the virus. Following reports that the coronavirus was discovered on chopping boards③ used for imported salmon at the market, major supermarkets in Beijing removed salmon from their shelvesovernight④. Beijing confirmed 36 new domestically transmitted cases last Saturday, all of which were linked to the Xinfadi wholesale market.

北京一大型批发市场“新发地”出现新的中心聚集性感染，引发对新一波新冠疫情的恐慌。之后，市场所在的丰台区已启动“战时”机制；6月13日，北京市叫停了旅游团和体育赛事。新发地市场517名工作人员接受了咽拭子检测，其中45人呈阳性。6月13日凌晨3点，整个新发地市场休市。此前，北京报告了两例新冠肺炎确诊病例，二人均为男性，在某肉类食品综合研究中心工作，最近曾到访新发地市场。有报道称，从市场内处理进口三文鱼的砧板上检测出新冠病毒。随后，北京各大超市连夜下架了三文鱼。6月13日，北京市新增确诊本土病例36例，均与新发地批发市场有关。
